Bee There Girls
If you have any stories or ideas you want to share to the other girls you can email Wendy at www.jarsofhope@networld.com and we will share them on this site.

How the Project Got Started
The Africa "Jars of Hope" project was inspired by Barbara Barrington Jones' recent month-long public speaking trip to South Africa. She was introduced to a nursery school project in the South African township of Knysna. The mothers of the nursery children work as domestic cleaners. Thirty preschool-age children of these mothers are dropped off at an impoverished shack for the day.

The principal and founder of the day care center is Gladys, who has dedicated 15 years of her life to providing the best care she can to the children of these hard working mothers. The care center has no running water so someone needs to fetch water daily in a wash basin for the children to wash their hands before lunch. Their lunch consists of a small bowl of cornmeal mush. Any improvement in the facilities or caretaking of these needy children comes from outside donations.

What You Can Do
This is where the girls attending Be the Best You Camp can make an amazing difference for good. During their participation in Camp, they become "Bee There Girls," pledging to make a difference in the world one person at a time. The Knysna Nursery recently identified their most pressing needs. The private, non-profit HBJ Foundation, which sponsors Be the Best You Camp, will be using the funds raised to provide the Knysna Nursery the things they need and has agreed to match any funds that are raised by the girls.
